EYEBROW TRANSPLANT: INDICATIONS

Eyebrow transplants are a common request to correct low or no eyebrow density, create a precise outline, or even repair scarred areas of the face. This procedure can be cosmetic or corrective, depending on the etiology.

EYEBROW TRANSPLANT: TECHNIQUES

Eyebrow transplantation uses the same procedures as hair transplantation. It can be done by harvesting hair (using the FUE or FUT method). Then, follicular units (FU) are transplanted to the eyebrow area according to the previously defined plan. These FU are selected (FU of 1 hair) to be similar to eyebrow hairs. The grafts will then grow at the rate and length of a hair.

EYEBROW TRANSPLANT: POST-OPERATIVE CARE

At the end of the procedure (2 to 6 hours), we give instructions that must be followed (in particular to be very careful with the grafts and to avoid tearing them out).

The main post-operative consequences consist of:

  • eyelid edema that lasts 2 to 3 days, then resolves quickly.
  • scabs in the areas of intervention. They disappear in about 1 week.
  • a slightly red appearance in the implantation area, which generally returns to normal in less than a month.
  • shedding of the implanted hair shaft
  • in the first few weeks after surgery. From the third month, the grafts grow and become denser.

EYEBROW TRANSPLANT: RISKS

  • Shock loss: This is a temporary loss of hair near the treatment areas. Fortunately, this phenomenon is rare.
  • Insufficient result: this may be linked to a low density of grafts (either due to a lack of grafts or insufficient uptake of the implanted grafts) linked to poor uptake of the grafts or insufficient implantation (low density).
  • Folliculitis: Rarely, a skin infection may occur in the implantation area or the donor site. Treatment is with local care and/or antibiotics.
  • Epidermal cysts: These are small, millimeter-sized subcutaneous lumps that can appear in the areas of surgery. They are eliminated spontaneously or through minor ablative surgery.
  • Scars: In addition to hypertrophic and keloid scars, which are rare in this area, it is important to understand that all surgery leaves a small scar. In FUE, these are sub-millimeter micro-scars. In FUT, the scar may widen vertically (stretch back).

EYEBROW TRANSPLANT: TRICOPIGMENTATION

At the eyebrow level, tricopigmentation allows for optimized grafting (impression of density, better contour). Tricopigmentation is a specific technique derived from dermopigmentation and must be absolutely distinguished from a common tattoo.
