HAIR TRANSPLANT HARVESTING METHODS

Hair transplantation is one option for treating baldness. It involves removing hair follicles from an area with dense hair (called the donor area ) to a bald or thinning area, called the recipient area . The donor area is located at the back of the skull (Hippocratic crown).
Due to genetic predisposition, the donor area is not affected by androgenetic alopecia (the main cause of hair loss). Therefore, lifelong collection is possible.

COLLECTION METHODS: FUE OR FUT

The improvement of hair surgery techniques now makes it possible to obtain a natural and harmonious result, taking into account the aesthetics of the face and the stage of alopecia.
The two main techniques differ in their method of collecting follicular units (FU) from the donor area:

  • either the doctor takes grafts one after the other: this is the FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) technique
  • either, the doctor takes a strip of skin containing the grafts: this is the FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) technique. This technique is also sometimes called FUSS (Follicular Unit by Strip Surgery)
